One thing I love about weddings is how different each and everyone is. Yes, there are elements that are the same in each day. There are moments that are similar across the board, but on the other hand, no two of them can ever compare. There is a unique story to each day... Shelby and Cory's wedding day was a cold clear day in February. I drove to Shelby's childhood home (a mere 2 miles from my house!!) and she got ready surrounded by her family and her dearest friends. There were a few wardrobe snafus...there always is... but the atmosphere was one of expectant excitement. Shelby and her tribe trekked out in the snow for some photos--that's how you know people love you---when they willingly shiver in the cold for you. I met Cory and his men at the church where the couple would be married, and there was laughs and teasing abounding. And then there is the whirlwind before the ceremony. Guests arrive, people hug, parents see their "little ones" all grown up and in their finest about to be wed and emotions run free. Prayers were said over Shelby before she walked down the aisle, a circle of love and faith surrounding her. Cory's anticipation at seeing his bride come down the aisle mounting as..... and then an amazing ceremony filled with personal antidotes and songs sang by close family, and faith covering it all. For awhile during their receiving line, I listened as Shelby and Cory were greeted by those that love them and shared in their excitement. I loved hearing the greetings exchanged, the happiness of both the couple and their friends.
Shelby and Cory chose a lovely outdoor location (hooray for couples who go outside even in the winter!!!) for their photos. I loved spending time with them, and seeing how even though it was so cold, they were so wrapped up in their love, the cold didn't seem to matter. And again, their friends braved the cold so well for them! Then it was off to the reception... Shelby's vision of candles and gold and greenery made the hall look so cozy and warm and beautiful. There were speeches, so touching and personal, the buzz of people who were so important to the couple, dancing (lots of it!!!) and love and joy encompassing it all.
One of the reason I love being a wedding photographer is bottling all of that up, all of the day for the couple and preserving it for them for years to come.
Thank you so much Shelby and Cory for having me!
